Chinese Lunar Rover Yutu-2 is a robotic spacecraft that formed part of Chang’e 4 mission to the Moon. It was launched on December 7, 2018. As of 12 May 2021, the rover had traveled a distance of 708.9 meters along the surface of the Moon. Chang’e 4 is a robotic spacecraft mission, part of the second phase of the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program. China achieved humanity’s first soft landing on the far side of the Moon, on 3 January 2019. The mission’s rover, Yutu-2, stumbled on that surprise during lunar day 8. The discovery prompted scientists on the mission to postpone other driving plans for the rover, and instead focus its instruments on trying to figure out what the strange material is.
